Think Resilience Bringing the Post Carbon Institutes’s six-week online course to the SSF community

by Arturo Herrera on August 21, 2018

October 9th to November 13th
We’ve explored climate resilience through many webinars over the past few years. But I’ve wondered how we as a community can explore this challenging terrain in greater depth.
So today, I’m pleased to announce an in-depth online course called Think Resilience: Preparing Communities for the Rest of the 21st Century, developed by the Post Carbon Institute. We’ve collaborated with PCI and PCI Senior Fellow Richard Heinberg to offer this six-week deep dive for the SSF community that I will moderate. Download the course outline here.
Together, we’ll go beyond what we normally do in our 90-minute webinars. With this course, you will:
  • Deepen your understanding of the interactions between human and Earth systems
  • Become better practitioners and advocates for sustainability as teachers, government officials, consultants and citizens
  • Make clearer sense of the complex issues society is facing
  • Learn how to take action to build community resilience
Think Resilience is a Post Carbon Instituteonline course delivered by Richard Heinberg, PCI’s Senior Fellow and the award-winning author of 13 books on energy and climate issues. He has been published in Nature, The Wall Street Journal, The American Prospect, and elsewhere, and has delivered hundreds of lectures to all kinds of audiences, ranging from policymakers from local city councils to members of the European Parliament

What do course graduates say?

“This has been one of the best learning experiences I have undertaken. Thank you for arranging it so well. Learning and social science fascinate me to no end, so I have to say the most memorable for me has been the historical roots of our societal problems. This course gave me so much clarity, and really some big ah-ha moments around our belief systems and the physics of consciousness that lie deep in our culture of consumerism.” – Wendy N.
“I found the course very enlightening and enriching. And now I feel challenged to do something to share it with others. Thanks again for a project so well planned and executed!” – Maan B.
“I’m very impressed with the organization and distillation of information into a compact format and understandable content. Heinberg’s delivery is sincere and effective.” – Clifton W.
Denise Fairchild will join our live discussion on Economy and Society, session 5 of the Think Resilience course we’re offering with the Post Carbon Institute.
Denise is President & CEO of the Emerald Cities Collaborative. She recently moderated our Energy Democracy webinar, and I’m thrilled she’ll join us for this course.
What a great opportunity to engage with this thought leader in building equitable, resilient communities.
And of course, you’ll also get to engage with Katharine Hayhoe in session 2 of the course.
